Veronica Chew

Senior Analyst | Research, Evaluation, & Data Team

Veronica was born and raised in Southern California, but has now lived in the Bay Area for over a decade. Her hometown, Rosemead, is an ethnic enclave within Los Angeles filled with immigrant and first generation families from parts of Asia, Mexico, and Central America. It is also the birthplace of Sriracha hot sauce (there's a great documentary btw!). Her parents themselves are ethnic Chinese immigrants and refugees from Indonesia and Cambodia, so she grew up appreciating diversity of culture, traditions and food. She studied at the University of California, Berkeley as an undergraduate and discovered an interest in understanding and solving for poverty and inequality. Her career since has been in research and data roles at mission-oriented organizations to address societal inequities, including a DCYF youth workforce development CBO, stints in the education space in Oakland, and now, as an analyst on the RED Team at DCYF.
