Rebecca Brown

Rebecca Brown has used data as a means to drive social justice, especially for young people, in a wide variety of ways. She has conducted research to drive understanding in the field, evaluated programs and initiatives, driven continuous improvement processes, and maintained databases in large public agencies. Some examples of this work include: working as an internal evaluator for Youth Uprising, a place-based wraparound center for youth in the most under-resourced community in Oakland, CA; evaluating initiatives around criminal justice, grade-level reading, African American male achievement, full service community schools, and attendance; evaluating programs that serve youth; and working as a liaison between the data department at Boston Public Schools and its community partners. Her work has included quantitative and qualitative approaches as well as management of large databases. Early in her career, Rebecca conducted research in academia around the social psychology of bias and has since provided trainings on managing bias in groups. She received her doctorate from U.C. Berkeley in organizational behavior and her Bachelors degree in Psychology and Economics from U.C. Davis.

What inspires you to do this work?

The young people that I've mentored and worked with who face entrenched systemic barriers and discrimination inspire me.
